Many settlers on the Oregon Trail, as well as soldiers of the Civil War, chose these revolvers as a fast handling back-up pocket gun. The Wells Fargo Company and the Pony Express had a preference for the snag free handling of the leverless option found on Baby Dragoon and Wells Fargo models.
Encouraged by an ongoing military contract, Colt turned his eye toward the civilian marketin 1848. Civilian pocket revolvers, such as the Wells Fargo or 1849 Pocket, were .31 caliber pistols that fit easily in a coat pocket.
The Uberti Colt 1849 Pocket has case-hardened frame, brass backstrap and trigger guard, blued and octagonal barrel, 5-shot engraved cylinder, and a 1-pc walnut grip.
